Moebius strip

Motivation for our project

Chessboard is the image of a battlefield. Since 1475 little changes have been made to the game, but all this time, the world changed. On one side, the world is smaller today since we have a sub atomic quantum knowledge and in the same time, the world became bigger, spacecrafts from Earth already exit the solar system.

There are several theories regarding the shape of the Universe. The recent breakthrough results in geometry, due to R.S. Hamilton and G. Perelman suggests that the orientable part of the universe roughly consists by spheres and donuts, but scientists agree that there might be non-orientable parts as well.

In geometry, the basic pattern of a non-orientable space is the so called projective plane. This doesn't fit in our 3D world, but a part of it, does: the Mobius strip. Therefore, a galaxy-scale chess game, should include also Mobius strip chessboard.

We propose by this project a Mobius strip chessboard that could be regarded as a computer simulation of a galaxy-scale chess game. Or just a different chessboard, just like Glinski's hexagonal chess.
